Anasagar Lake :-The Lake was built in the year 1140 A.D by King Arnoraj (Anji), the grand father of great Rajput king Prithviraj Chouhan. The lake was built to wash the sins of bloodshed that happened after the King killed the enemies. Emperor Jahangir later built a beautiful garden and named it as Daulat Bagh. Shah Jahan further augmented the beauty of the place by constructing a 1240 feet long marble parapet on the embankment and there now stands five elegant pavilions of polished white marble around it
Dargah Khwaja Sahib : Commonly known as Khwaja Sahib, this Dargah of Khwaja muin-ud-din Chishti is one of the biggest of places of interest in Ajmer. The place stands as the most important Muslim shrines in India, only next to Holy Mecca. Millions of pilgrims visit this place for it is the abode of Imparter of Boons. The Dargah was built in the beginning of the 13th century A.D. This brilliant mosque was later enlarged by Mughal emperors Akbar and Shah Jahan during their tenure. It had a famous historical moment when the mighty Akbar came on foot to the Dargah khawja Sahib from Agra after the birth of his son Salim
Adhai Din ka Jhonpara (“two and a half day shed”) :-When translated, it means the “two and a half day shed”. This fascinating relic of an old mosque is placed towards the west of Dargah Khawja Sahib. It was initially a Sanskrit college that was built in 1155. Later it was destroyed by Mohammad Ghari in 1193. He wanted it to be made a place for his daily prayers. Thus the remains of temple that surrounding was used to built the magnificent monument. It is fascinating to see the two pillars stand alike and retain the Hindu stylistic elements. The screen and arches visible today were added in 1266. Intricate carvings depicting Kufi and Jughra inscriptions of Holy Koran are adorned in the archway of the structure. It today exists as one of the great example of indo –Islamic architecture.
Taragarh :-Maharaja Ajaypal is known to have built this glorious fortress. It stands at a 2855 feet high from the sea level and 800 feet from the ground level. This grand fort was made to guard the city of Ajmer. It is known to have six gates. It also houses Miran Saheb ki Dargha, remembrance of the governor of the fort who laid down his life in an encounter.
Pushkar :-This small township and the sacred lake of pushkar is 11 kms. Away form Ajmer. The road to Pushkar winds thorough the Nag pahar (Snake Mountain), leading to the ancient lake. Pushkar isan ancient town and has seen history being made since the Ramayan period. The account o fthis town can be found in the 4th century writings of the Chinese traveler Fa-Hien and also in the scripts written during the era of Muslim invasions. The sleepy town comes to life during the annual Pushkar fair held on Kartik Purnima. Pushkar Fair: ( October – November). Held during the months of October and November, Pushkar Fair is the most important event of the region. It starts every year on the holy day of Kartik Poornima, or the full moon in October –November. The fair generally lasts for twelve days. This fascinating fair includes the largest cattle fair of the country. It is one of the charming animal fair in the world. It also has a religious significance to it.
